Welcome to Heliopolis
A Personal Introduction
Rana
Building connections, fostering social cohesion, and creating spaces for dialogue—that’s what drives me, both personally and professionally.
I see Heliopolis as much more than a café. To me, it’s a venue that blends culture, community, and creativity. A place where people gather for a story, and engage in thought-provoking conversations. It’s the realization of my passion for stories, and the context behind each of them.
Over the past 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of working across diverse fields— journalism, corporate, government, and the civil society sector—each shaping my understanding of how communication can drive real-world change. I’ve covered pivotal political moments as an editor-in-chief and journalist, managed IT programs delivering innovative solutions for governments, and advised a Canadian Senator on crafting meaningful legislation. My work has taken me from conflict zones to boardrooms, always focused on one goal: enabling dialogue and understanding.
As the director of strategic communication for a leading civil society organization, I worked across 40 countries alongside women peacebuilders in communities affected by war and violence. Their mission was to help rebuild these communities and foster common ground, while our role was to bridge the gap between policymakers and civil society, on every level. At its core, this work was about forging human connections at every level—from grassroots initiatives to high-level policy change.
Now, through Heliopolis, I’m channeling that passion into a venue where community meets culture. I’m always eager to connect with others who share my belief in the power of communication, collaboration, and creativity.
Bishoy
At Heliopolis Social Café, I bring together my passions for art, food, music, and culture to create an experience that feels personal and global at the same time. As a photographer, my work captures moments from my travels around the world, and I’m proud to have it displayed throughout Heliopolis, adding a touch of adventure and storytelling to our space.
Music has always been a part of my life—whether playing bass guitar or exploring new rhythms, I believe art connects us in ways words often can’t. I carry that same adventurous spirit into the kitchen. As a hobbyist chef with a passion for plating, I love experimenting with flavors, inspired by my travels across different countries and cultures. Whether it’s trying something entirely new or reinterpreting classic dishes, I’m always eager to explore the world through food and share those experiences with our guests.
On the operational side, my 20+ years in IT project and program management have given me the tools to make sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes at Heliopolis. Leading teams, managing complex projects, and finding ways to improve processes is second nature to me. My background allows me to combine creativity with strategy, ensuring that the events and experiences we create are not only engaging but also seamless.
For me, Heliopolis is a place where all of these passions come together. It’s a space where people can connect through art, music, food, and culture. I’m excited to share these experiences and create an environment where everyone feels welcome and inspired.
